Men's Track & Field 1st, Women 4th at 17-Team DePauw Invitational

GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won the 17-team men's track and field DePauw University Invitational, and the women finished 4th in a strong performance by the Fightin' Engineers on Saturday at DePauw.

The men's squad scored 132 points and outdistanced Trine and DePauw for top honors.  The tight women's meet was won by Trine with 95 points, followed by Hanover with 90, Kentucky Wesleyan at 89 and Rose-Hulman at 87.

The men won four events and the women earned one event victory on Saturday.  Kristian Zadlo was the lone multiple-event winner, claiming top honors in the pole vault (14' 3 1/4") and the 200-meter dash (22.95 seconds).

Nathan Schrader won the shot put with a mark of 48' 6 3/4", and Blake Storoe brought home top honors in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:44.02.

On the women's side, Mary-Helen Shomba captured first-place honors in the 60-meter hurdles with a strong mark of 9.06 seconds.

Men's runner-ups on Saturday included Dawson Allen in the 200 (23.14); Kyle Brownell in the high jump (6' 5"); Aaron Lannoy in the 600 (1:25.71); and Schrader in the weight throw (53' 10 1/4").

Women's second-place finishers included Katrina Agustin in the 200 (27.85); Christina Rogers in the 400 (1:02.21); Madison Lindfelt in the 600 (1:46.93); and Cassie Utley in the shot put (36' 8 1/2").

Third-place performers were Agustin in the women's 60 (8.24) and Dara Smith in the 400 (1:02.63).

Rose-Hulman will host the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference track and field championships on Feb. 22 at the Sports and Recreation Center.
