Women's Basketball Relies on 4th Quarter Spurt to Top Earlham

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology outscored Earlham College 22-8 in the final quarter to snap a 40-40 tie and pick up a 62-48 women's basketball victory at Hulbert Arena on Wednesday night.

Nosa Igiehon led three Rose-Hulman players in double figures with 13 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots.  Rose Burnham added 12 points on 5-7 from the field with seven rebounds.  Hannah Woody pitched in with 10 points in her final home game at Hulbert Arena.

Other key contributors to the balanced offense included Nola Wilson with eight points and five rebounds; Jordan Barlow with eight points; and Desirae Webster with seven points.

Kayla Bowling led Earlham with 25 points, but the rest of the Quaker roster was held to 9-37 from the floor in the contest.

The contest was tied at 40-40 after three hard fought quarters.  Rose-Hulman opened the fourth quarter on a 17-4 run to put the game away.  A balanced attack during the time was capped with a 7-0 run that featured two free throws by Kahlan Jester, a three-pointer by Woody and a layup from Webster.

Rose-Hulman remained alive in the HCAC postseason race entering Saturday's 3 p.m. regular season finale at Hanover College.  The Fightin' Engineers are currently in a five-way tie for fifth place in the league at 6-11 entering the last game of the season.  Bluffton currently holds the No. 4 spot at 7-10, followed by Anderson, Defiance, Earlham, Mount St. Joseph and Rose-Hulman all at 6-11.
