CLERMONT, Fl.-- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers came up short in two close games on Thursday. The team suffered a loss to Eastern in the first game of the day's double header with a final of 6-1. The Engineers would then fall in a thrilling game against Regis with a final of 4-3.
Game 1- Rose-Hulman 1, Eastern 6
The Engineers would start the day facing off against Eastern University. Emily Struble would start at the mound recording four strikeouts in 4.2 innings.
Rose-Hulman would jump in front early after a single by Alexis Sullivan pushed in a run by Ashley Pinkham in the bottom of the first. Eastern would tie the game in the top of the fourth with a run of their own to make the score 1-1.
Eastern would have an offensive spark in the top of fifth, scoring four runs to jump ahead of the Engineers 5-1. Eastern would hold onto their lead adding on another run in the top of the seventh to defeat the Engineers 6-1.
Game 2- Rose-Hulman 3, Regis (Mass.) 4
The second game of the day would prove to be a competitive contest. Alyssa Pinkston would start for the Engineers at the mound recording two strikeouts in five innings.
Regis would strike first recording a run in the bottom of the second to jump ahead 1-0. Regis would build their lead to 3-0 after earning two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.
The Engineers would come to life in the sixth inning offensively to rally back into the game. A double by Sullivan would push in a score by Angela Boulboulle to make the score 3-1. Sullivan would find her way home for another score to cut the lead to 3-2. Then Struble would hit a single that would bring home Hannah Bach for the tying score 3-3.
Rose-Hulman fought hard, but was not able to complete the comeback after a base hit led to the winning run for Regis in the bottom of the seventh.
The Engineers will wrap up their Florida trip with a double header tomorrow taking on Houghton at 10 am and Adrian at 12:15 pm.
