Jon Prevo earned his 200th career win as head women's basketball coach after his team defeated Elmhurst College 87-51. The team improved to 1-2 on the season, while Elmhurst fell to 0-6.
Coach Prevo now has a career record of 200-179 in his 16th season at Rose-Hulman. He has led the Fightin' Engineers to three HCAC regular season championships and two NCAA Division III tournaments.Â
Rose-Hulman led by as many as 11 in the first quarter and took a 13-point lead into the halftime break. The Fightin' Engineers climbed to a 21-point lead with a 13-5 run to open the third quarter. Their biggest lead of the game (40) came late in the fourth quarter.
Jordan Barlow recorded her second 20-point game of the season, finishing with her career-high 21 points in 30 minutes, to lead the offensive attack. She also tallied eight rebounds and four assists.Â
Mira Randolph recorded a career high 16 points off the bench in 19 minutes, including shooting 3-for-4 from behind the arc.Â
Rose Burnham was the third RHIT player to finish in double digits with 13 points, whiling grabbing six rebounds. Both Barlow and Randolph recorded three steals a piece.Â
Rose-Hulman once again dominated the paint. RHIT outscored Elmhurst in the paint 50-20 and won the rebounding category 37-31. Each member from Rose-Hulman that entered the game scored at least once. Â
RHIT scored 87 points in the contest, which is the highest team point total since their 91-55 victory over St. Mary-of-the-Woods in November 2018.Â
The Fightin' Engineers offense shot 36-65 from the floor, good for a 55.4% clip, including 7-17 from deep. That effort was highlighted by two quarters with over 60% shooting: the first quarter (61.54%) and the third quarter (64.71%).Â
The RHIT women's hoops team travels to Bloomington, Ill. for the Midwest Challenge hosted by Illinois Wesleyan. They will battle Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday and either Depauw University or Washington University in St. Louis on Sunday.
