NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on a strong defensive effort and timely second half scoring to pick up a 52-39 women's basketball victory at Manchester University on Friday night.
The Fightin' Engineers improved to 1-3 on the season keyed by their third quarter defense. Rose-Hulman outscored Manchester 17-3 in the 10-minute third quarter, turning a 24-22 halftime deficit into a 39-27 advantage.
Jordan Barlow and
Ashley Black both scored in double figures for the Fightin' Engineer offense. Barlow scored 11 points with four rebounds, and Black scored 10 points with a team-high three assists.
Kahlan Jester contributed eight points and five rebounds, and
Lindsey Thomas scored seven points in a 13-minute stint off the bench.Â
Desirae Webster and
Jenna Myers added four points each, and
Peyton Miller led the team with six rebounds.
Manchester was held to just 12-49 from the field for 25% shooting for the game. The third quarter featured Rose-Hulman holding Manchester to just 1-10 from the field, and the Engineers only allowed 27% shooting in the fourth quarter.
Tiara Jackson led the Spartans with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Manchester led 26-22 with 8:54 left in the third quarter, before Rose-Hulman closed out the quarter on a 17-1 run. Thiomas keyed the offense with a pair of two-point baskets and a three-pointer in a 1-minute span.
Rose-Hulman stands 1-3 on the year, while Manchester dropped to 3-12. The Fightin' Engineers will host Manchester in a rematch of this game on Saturday (Feb. 13) at 6:45 pm inside Hulbert Arena.
