FRANKLIN, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology dominated the statistics throughout much of a men's soccer matchup with Franklin College, before a game winning goal in the 80th minute lifted the Fightin' Engineers to a 1-0 road victory on Wednesday night.
The Fightin' Engineers outshot Franklin 19-1 in the contest, but couldn't find the back of the net until 10:55 remained on the clock. Freshman
Jacob Dirienzo scored his first college goal on an assist from
Eric Kirby to snap the scoreless tie and put Rose-Hulman ahead for good.
Rose-Hulman improved to 3-0 on the season with its third consecutive shutout. Freshman
Evan Hofer improved to 3-0 on the season with the 90-minute shutout at the goalkeeper position.
Takezo Kelly led the Rose-Hulman offense with six shots, and
AJ Yilmaz and
Caleb Urban had three shots each. The Fightin' Engineers outshot Franklin 10-1 in the first half and 9-0 in the second half to earn the victory.
Rose-Hulman welcomes Transylvania for a battle of 3-0 unbeaten teams on Senior Day at the Engineer Soccer Field on Saturday at 4:30 pm.
