TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on a strong offensive performance to sweep its home opening doubleheader 9-7 and 11-4 over Eureka College on Sunday afternoon at the Engineer Softball Field.
Nicole Lang led the offensive effort with key home runs in each game. In the opener, Lang hit a grand slam to propel the offense in a 9-7 victory. In the nightcap, she added a 3-run home run for the Fightin' Engineers.
Game one featured a pair of Rose-Hulman home runs to propel an 11-hit attack.Â
Reagan Knabe hit a 3-run home run to open the scoring, which preceded Lang's grand slam later in the game as Rose-Hulman outlasted Eureka by two runs.
Lang finished 2-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs.Â
Gabrielle Davidson finished 2-3 with two RBIs and one run.Â
MaKenzie Morgan added two hits and Knabe had three RBIs.
The offense helped
Mackenzie Hunt pick up the pitching victory. Hunt scattered seven hits and recorded three strikeouts, before
Alyssa Pinkston recorded the final seven outs in the win.
In the nightcap, Lang finished 3-4 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Rose-Hulman offense.Â
Angela Boulboulle added three hits, including a double, with two RBIs. Knabe had two singles with two RBIs and one run scored, and Jacky Neman added two singles and scored once.Â
Emily Struble and
Ashley Pinkham each scored twice to balance the attack.
Pinkham scattered seven hits in 4.1 innings of work to earn a no-decision, before Struble pitched 2.2 scoreless innings to earn the victory.
Rose-Hulman improved to 3-1 on the season, while Eureka stands 0-2. The Fightin' Engineers return to action at home against Greenville next Saturday.
