TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team fell twice to Greenville University on Saturday afternoon, 3-0 and 10-5. RHIT falls to 3-3 on the season and Greenville improves to 2-6.
Pitching and defense proved the difference in Game 1 of the series. There were only five strikeouts between the two teams and only one error on the field. Offensively, Rose-Hulman was held to only one hit - a double by
Kennedy Michnewicz. The Panthers were led by Olivia Shipman, who homered and ended with two RBIs.Â
Mackenzie Hunt relieved
Alyssa Pinkston in the pitching circle. Hunt gave up no runs and only one hit in her 2.0 innings of work. Kendall Farr from Greenville finished the complete game of 7.0 innings, giving up only one hit to RHIT.
The bats became more alive in game two, with Greenville finishing with 11 hits, and Rose-Hulman with six. RHIT was led in Game 2 by
Ashley Pinkham, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI and one run scored.
Nicole Lang,
Emily Struble, and
Angela Boulboulle also contributed one RBI each.
Hunt returned to the circle in Game 2, taking over for Struble who threw 4.1 innings. Hunt pitched 2.2 innings and recorded three strikeouts. Maegan Stone from Greenville went the distance and recorded four strikeouts.
The Fightin' Engineers get back to work tomorrow at Webster University in St. Louis, MO for another doubleheader. The first pitch is slated for noon Central time.
