TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team relied on a first half goal and a strong defensive effort to win the inaugural game on its new turf home field 1-0 over Mount St. Joseph on Tuesday night.
Marian Mufich scored in the sixth minute, courtesy of a strong corner kick assist from
Sarah Shoemaker. Mufich gave the Engineers an early lead that allowed the team's strong defensive performance to carry the remaining 85 minutes.
Rose-Hulman narrowly outshot Mount St. Joseph 13-12 in the match.Â
Lane Lawrence led the offense with six shots, and
Kyra Hicks had three shots on the evening. Â
Natalie Dillon recorded a career-high 10 saves to record the shutout and pick up the goalkeeping victory. Her top play came with less than nine minutes remaining, as a Mount St. Joseph forward struck a potential game tying shot that was snagged out of the air by a diving Dillon.
Lauren Haynes led the Mount St. Joseph offense with four shots. Maddie Muterspaw had four saves in net for the Lions.
Rose-Hulman improved to 1-0 on the season, while Mount St. Joseph dropped to 0-1. The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Saturday at 1 pm with a matchup at Bluffton.
