TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology remained in first place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer standings after battling to a 2-2 draw with Hanover College on Wednesday night at the Engineer Soccer Field.
Hanover took the lead on two occasions in the game, only to see Rose-Hulman battle back and tie the score twice. Luke Eppler opened the scoring in the 10th minute on a score off a corner kick to give Hanover a 1-0 lead.
Rose-Hulman knotted the score at 1-1 on a score by
AJ Yilmaz in the 15th minute, courtesy of a crossing pass from
Matt Fix.
Hanover regained a 2-1 advantage in the 61st minute when Fellipe Busato scored on an assist from Brandon Gallagher.
The combination of Fix and Yilmaz hooked up again to tie the score at 2-2. Fix scored from in the box, courtesy of a crossing pass by Yilmaz.
The tightly contested match ended with Rose-Hulman outshooting Hanover 19-13 and the teams playing 20 extra minutes without breaking the tie. Yilmaz led the Rose-Hulman offense with six shots.Â
Evan Hofer had two saves in goals for the Fightin' Engineers.
Rose-Hulman stands 6-0-1, while Hanover has a 5-1-1 record after tonight's match. The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Saturday at home against Earlham College at 3:30 pm.
