TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team secured a spot in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship match with a 1-0 victory over Anderson University on Wednesday night at the Engineer Soccer Field.
With the win, Rose-Hulman secured a second-place finish in the league regular season standings at 7-1. Hanover finished a perfect 8-0 and will host the Fightin' Engineers sometime between April 5 and April 11 in the title match. The date and time will be finalized later this week.
Mariah Mufich scored the lone goal of the match, snapping a tie with 6:33 remaining in regulation time. Mufich scored her second goal of the season - both game winners in 1-0 victories - on a crossing pass from
Lane Lawrence.
Rose-Hulman controlled much of the action, outshooting Anderson 21-7 in the match. Mufich led the offense with six shots, Lawrence had five shots, and
Elle Vuotto recorded three shots for the Fightin' Engineers.
Natalie Dillon recorded five saves in her seventh shutout win of the season. Her most challenging save was a leaping fully extended save on a blast late in the first half to keep the Ravens scoreless.
Rose-Hulman will look to avenge a narrow 2-1 overtime loss at Hanover in next week's championship match.
