TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team fell twice at home versus Mount St. Joseph University on Saturday afternoon, 15-0 and 2-0. Rose-Hulman's record fell to 7-14 overall and Mount St. Joseph improved to 16-8.
In game one, MSJ opened with four runs in the first inning and plated another eight in the third.
Reagan Knabe broke the short no-hit bid for MSJ in the bottom of the third inning with a two-out, two-strike single to left field. Both Knabe and
Kennedy Michnewicz contributed one hit each.
The Lions were backed mainly by Sarah Miller, both at the dish and in the circle. Miller finished 4-4 with two home runs, seven RBI's, and three runs scored. She also earned the pitching win, pitching a complete game, five inning shutout with two hits.
For game two, pitching and defense slowed the Lions' offensive attack. In the fifth, the Lions first two hitters doubled and singled, respectively, but
Ashley Pinkham struck out two and
Gabrielle Davidson snagged a line drive to limit the Lions to no runs in the inning.
In the top of the seventh, the Fightin' Engineers recorded an out but two Lions reached base but never scored, due to another Pinkham strikeout and a line drive caught by
Aiko Sherman.
Rose-Hulman recorded one hit, each from Knabe and
Alexis Fortuna. Pinkham went the distance in the circle, tossing seven innings and striking out four.
The Fightin' Engineers are back in action tomorrow, April 18 at Franklin College for HCAC doubleheader action. First pitches are scheduled for 1pm and 3pm.
