TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team fell to Anderson University in non-HCAC doubleheader play on Thursday night by scores of 11-1 and 3-2. Rose-Hulman fell to 8-17 and Anderson improved to 8-14 on the season.
Anderson took control of the scoreboard early on by plated six runs in the second inning. Rose-Hulman scored their lone run in their half of the second on a RBI-single by
Alexis Fortuna.
The trio of
Reagan Knabe,
Jacky Neuman, and
Mackenzie Hunt combined for six of the team's hits in game one, finishing with two hits a piece.
Hunt started in the circle for the Fightin' Engineers in game two and recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts. Though earning the loss, she tossed seven innings alongside the 11 strikeouts and gave up only one earned run.
Hunt's no-hit bid was broken up in the top of the fifth inning, when Anderson scored the first runs of the game. In the Rose-Hulman fifth, Fortuna reached safely and scored from a Knabe double to bring the deficit to 2-1.
Trailing by two in the bottom of the seventh inning,
MaKenzie Morgan reached safely and later scored when Knabe singled on an Anderson fielding error. With Knabe on third base as the tying run, Anderson forced a groundout to end the game and cease the Rose-Hulman comeback.
Knabe led the offesne for game two, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Rose-Hulman returns to action on Sunday, April 25 at Mount St. Joseph for another non-HCAC doubleheader. First pitch from Cincinnati is slated for 1pm.
