TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball split the HCAC opening doubleheader with Bluffton University. Game one went to Bluffton 4-3 in eight innings, and game two went to to Rose-Hulman 8-7. Following the doubleheader, Rose-Hulman moved to 6-7 on the season and Bluffton moved to 3-11.
The bats were hot today at the Rose-Hulman softball field. Both teams combined for 22 hits in game one and 26 in game two.
Game one saw an extra inning, where Bluffton plated the game-winning run in the top of the eighth. Rose-Hulman threatened to by
Nicole Lang advancing to third base, but was not able to score.
Jessica Thuer and
Reagan Knabe led the offensive attack for game one, both finishing 2-4 in the game and each recording a double.
Nicole Lang drove in two of Rose-Hulman's three runs.
The Fightin' Engineers took game two fashionably by
Reagan Knabe driving in the extra-inning game-winning run, scoring Lang. Rose-Hulman tallied five hits and three runs in the first inning, supported by three doubles from
MaKenzie Morgan, Thuer, and
Jacky Neuman. In the second inning, Bluffton would score three runs, but Rose-Hulman's rebuttal was to plate four more by six straight singles.
Nicole Lang powered the offense in game two by finishing a perfect 4-4 with an RBI and three runs scored.
Ashley Pinkham ended 3-4, contributing an RBI.
MaKenzie Morgan and
Angela Boulboulle each finished 2-4 in the second game, and each adding one RBI. Morgan also recorded two runs scored.
Mackenzie Hunt earned the win from the pitching circle in game two, tossing 2.1 innings and allowing only one hit.
The Fightin' Engineers are set for a six-game, four day home stretch. The first two games are Wednesday, April 7 against Spalding University. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 5:30pm.
