TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on a strong pitching performance and timely hitting in the nightcap to split a twinbill against Spalding University on Wednesday at the Engineer softball field.
GAME ONE:
Spalding relied on three runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh to pick up a 6-4 win over Rose-Hulman. Ally Klein led the Spalding offense with a home run and two RBIs.
Nicole Lang blasted a home run and scored twice to lead the Rose-Hulman game one offense.Â
Angela Boulboulle was the Engineer with multiple hits, tallying a single, double and one RBI.
Reagan Knabe and
Alexis Sullivan each added one hit and one run scored.
Ashley Pinkham struck out three in five innings of work in the pitching circle, while
Mackenzie Hunt allowed no earned runs in two innings.
GAME TWO:
Alyssa Pinkston was flawless in a complete-game three-hit shutout to lift Rose-Hulman to a 4-0 victory in the nightcap. She struck out two and retired the last 14 hitters she faced.
Pinkston relied on three outstanding defensive plays to retire the last 14 hitters. Lang made a leaping catch of a line drive at shortstop.Â
Gabrielle Davidson make a diving catch in center field.Â
Alexis Fortuna added a diving catch in right field to lead a defensive effort that had no errors in game two.
Offensively, Pinkham was 2-3 with three RBIs and Boulboulle added another multi-hit game with two singles. Lang had a double and an RBI.
Rose-Hulman stands 7-8 overall, while Spalding is 9-7. The Fightin' Engineers face off with Franklin in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday at 5:30 pm.
