FRIDAY RECAP:
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team split their Friday Night doubleheader versus the Manchester University Spartans. Rose-Hulman moved to 9-20 on the season while Manchester moved to 6-22.
GAME ONE
Though Rose-Hulman narrowly edged Manchester for the game-one victory, it was the Spartans who jumped ahead early on. Manchester tallied four hits and one run in the first inning and threatened for more but
Mackenzie Hunt recorded the bases-loaded strikeout to end the inning.
The Fightin' Engineers rallied in their half of the third with four hits and two runs to take the lead. A
Kennedy Michnewicz single scored
Jessica Thuer, then a double by Hunt to deep left-center field scored Thuer.
The Spartans battled back in the top of the seventh when Alexis Mokos from Manchester homered to left field to tie the game 2-2. But in the eighth for Rose-Hulman,
Reagan Knabe plated the game-winning run on a bases loaded, two-out, walk-off single for the win.
Hunt and Knabe each recorded two hits and one RBI in game one to lead the offense. Thuer and
Angela Boulboulle also tacked on two hits each.
Hunt also earned the win in the circle, her fifth win of the season. She finished the complete-game victory with 11 strikeouts in eight innings, tying her career-high.
GAME TWO
The Spartans came out victoriously in game two, scoring first on another homer by Mokos. Hunt tied the game in the second inning with a home run of her own, the first of her career. Thuer followed up with a home run, the first of the season and the second of her career.
Leading by only two entering the seventh, Manchester's Kodi Douglass homered scoring three, increasing the lead to the final score of 7-2.
Knabe and Hunt each finished with three hits in game two. Hunt and Thuer recorded the two RBIs for Rose-Hulman.
The Fightin' Engineers head to Anderson University on Saturday, May 1 for a doubleheader beginning at 1pm.
The team returns home on Sunday, May 2 for Senior Day to honor its two seniors:
Emily Struble and
Jessica Thuer. The doubleheader on Sunday begins at 1pm with Senior Day activities beginning approximately 15 minutes before game one.
