TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team beat Mount St. Joseph in walk-off fashion by a score of 8-7. Rose-Hulman improved to 10-8 on the season, and MSJ fell to 8-12.
Adam Taylor got Rose-Hulman on the board with an RBI-single to left field, which scored
Luke Calabrese. A sacrifice fly by
Alex Gavrilovich scored Taylor.
In the bottom of the third inning,
Manuel Lopez blasted a solo home run over the left field fence, his third of the season and his second in three games.
In the Rose-Hulman half of the sixth,
Luke Kluemper ripped a two-out, two-RBI double down the left field line to score Taylor and
AJ Ernst.
The Lions roared back in the eighth inning, putting up six runs on five hits. MSJ grabbed their first lead of the inning, 7-5.
Shaine Mitchell entered the game and doubled in his at bat. He broke to steal third base, but Taylor placed a hit between the first- and second-basemen to score Mitchell.
After holding the Lions to no runs in the top of the ninth inning,
Harris Camp began the Rose-Hulman half of the inning with a leadoff single.
Brett Tuttle reached base on a throwing error, which scored Camp to tie the game 7-7. Lopez bunted Tuttle to third base, bringing up
Logan Cody. Cody drove a single into the outfield to score Tuttle and win the game in walk-off fashion.
Cody, Camp, and Taylor led the offensive attack, each finishing with two hits. Taylor and Kluemper contributed two RBI's each, and Taylor also scored twice.
Brett Borcherding tossed seven innings, giving up only seven hits and one run while striking out seven.
Michael Yager picked up his first pitching win of the season.
The Fightin' Engineers return to action this Saturday, April 10 at Anderson University to continue HCAC play. First pitch in the doubleheader is scheduled for 1pm.
