GREENVILLE, Ill. -- Greenville University scored in the second half and later in overtime to earn a 2-1 men's soccer victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the 2021 season opener on Wednesday night.
Rose-Hulman jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by
Jackson Seida in the 22nd minute.Â
Takezo Kelly had the assist.
Greenville tied the score at 1-1 on a score from Petter Meinseth, assisted by Pedro Gonzalez-Moro in the 78th minute. The Panthers then scored the golden goal in overtime to pick up the win, as Luis Duran scored on a pass from Benn Jane in the 98th minute.
Rose-Hulman controlled the contest throughout, outshooting Greenville 20-6 on the evening. Kelly had a team-high seven shots, and
Caleb Urban added three shots for the Fightin' Engineers.
Rose-Hulman had all five corner kicks in the match as well. Pedro Vebber had five saves to lead the Panthers defensive effort.
Greenville stands 1-0, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 0-1. The Fightin' Engineers travel to Washington University (Mo.) on Saturday at 7 pm Central Time in their next contest.
