TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored once in each half to capture a victory in the 2021 women's soccer season opener, defeating Webster University 2-0 on Wednesday night at the Rose-Hulman Soccer Field.
Kyra Hicks scored the first goal of the 2021 season with a 38th minute score in the box, courtesy of a pass from
Sarah Shoemaker. Â
Christina Rogers added an insurance goal in the 80th minute to give the Fightin' Engineers a 2-0 lead.Â
Elle Vuotto provided the assist on the final goal.
Natalie Dillon led the Rose-Hulman defensive effort with five saves in the shutout. Taryn Banfield had four saves for the Gorloks.
Rose-Hulman outshot Webster 14-6 in the contest, with seven shots in each half. The Fightin' Engineers also had a 9-6 edge on corner kicks.
Rogers paced the Rose-Hulman offense with five shots and two shots on goal.
Rose-Hulman stands 1-0 on the season, while Webster is 0-1. The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Monday with a road matchup at Greenville University.
