TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology sophomore
Sophia Koop surpassed a 25-year old school record with 28 kills to lead the Fightin' Engineers to a 5-set home victory over Webster University on Tuesday at Hulbert Arena.
Koop smashed 28 kills with just 4 hitting errors at a .375 hitting percentage to lead the Fightin' Engineer offense. Her kills total surpassed the school record set by Molly Lambert in a victory over Oakland City University in 1996.
The effort helped Rose-Hulman earn a 25-19, 18-25, 29-27, 23-25, 15-8 victory in the 2021 home opener.
Koop was one of four Rose-Hulman players with double figure kills in the match.Â
Elizabeth Canon added 15 kills,
Allie Fults had 13, and
Kate Wood contributed 11 kills to the attack. Â
The team total of 70 assists in the match ranks as a school record, and the squad's 75 kills rank No. 3 in program history. Â
Jillian Gregg led the team with 35 assists, and sophomore
Sophia Harrison added 29 assists on the night.
Harrison led the team with 4 service aces. Koop added 3 and
Claudia Rowan recorded 2. Fults led the front row effort with four total blocks.
Defensively, five players recorded double figures digs for the Engineers.Â
Kylie Rathbun had a team-high 21 digs. Koop added 16 digs, and Harrison had 14. Gregg tallied 13 and Rowan pitched in 12 on the evening.
Rose-Hulman improved to 6-6 on the season, while Webster dropped to 6-6. The Fightin' Engineers host the Rose-Hulman Invitational this weekend, starting Friday with matches against Concordia Chicago and WashU.
