TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology volleyball team defeated Blackburn College in four sets and fell to Illinois Institute of Technology in four sets to close out the 2021 Engineer Invitational at Hulbert Arena on Saturday.
Rose-Hulman took the opener over Blackburn by a 25-19, 25-14, 23-25, 25-20 count.Â
Sophia Koop led the offense with 20 kills, and
Elizabeth Canon added 17 kills.
Jillian Gregg had 27 assists, and
Sophia Harrison contributed 21 assists to the performance.Â
Kylie Rathbun added team-highs of four service aces and 19 digs.
Allie Fults led the blocking effort with three solo blocks and six block assists.Â
Jillian Gregg pitched in with four total blocks.
Rathbun paced five players with double figure digs with 19. Koop had 16, Harrison tallied 13,
Claudia Rowan contributed 12, and Gregg added 11 for the Engineers.
In the nightcap, Illinois Institute of Technology picked up a 25-22, 19-25, 25-15, 25-11 victory to close out the four match weekend.
Canon had a team-high 10 kills. Koop added eight kills and tied for team-high honors with Harrison at three service aces. Â
Fults had six total blocks to lead the front row defense, and Rathbun (24) and Koop (13) tallied double figure digs. Gregg had 18 assists, with Harrison contributing 11.
Following the tournament, Koop and Rathbun were honored with spots on the Rose-Hulman Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Rose-Hulman stands 8-8 on the season and starts Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play at home next Saturday at 1 pm against Defiance College.
