TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored a pair of second half goals to pick up a 3-1 victory over Mount St. Joseph in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer action on Wednesday night at the Engineer Soccer Field.
Matt Fix scored the first goal of the match in the 23rd minute, courtesy of a pass from
Takezo Kelly. Mount St. Joseph tied the score 1-1 at the half on a score from Michael Abel, assisted by Willis Johnson.
Rose-Hulman scored the game winner two minutes into the second half, when
AJ Yilmaz booted home a goal on an assist from
Julius Salinas.
Kelly added an insurance goal in the 58th minute to give the Fightin' Engineers a 3-1 lead which they held for the remainder of the match.
Rose-Hulman outshot Mount St. Joseph 24-7 in the match, with Yilmaz recording seven shots and Kelly tallying six.Â
Evan Hofer had four saves in the victory.
Rose-Hulman improved to 4-4-1 on the season and 1-0 in HCAC play, while Mount St. Joseph dropped to 1-8 and 0-1. The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Saturday at Earlham College with a 3:30 pm kickoff.
