JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technlogy opened the season with a 5-set win over Illinois College and a 4-set loss to Monmouth at the Illinois College Invitational on Friday night.
In the opener, Rose-Hulman rallied from two sets down to earn a 16-25, 24-26, 25-19, 25-18, 25-13 win over Illinois College. Three players recorded double-figure kills, led by
Elizabeth Canon with 17.Â
Allie Fults had 12 kills, and
Sophia Koop added 11 including the game winning kill at 14-13 in the fifth set.
Jillian Gregg (26) and
Sophia Harrison (21) contributed more than 20 assists each.Â
Brookelyn Corona, Harrison and
Claudia Rowan,
Kylie Rathbun and Koop added two service aces each. Fults had a team-high three blocks and
Aaliyah Briggs contributed two blocks.
In the nightcap, Monmouth picked up a 25-20, 18-25, 25-18, 25-20 victory. Canon had a team-high 13 kills. Gregg recorded 31 assists, with Harrison contributing 10 assists to the performance. Gregg had four service aces and Rowan had three.
Koop had a team-high 22 digs and Rowan added 21 digs. Fults had a team-high four solo and five total blocks.
Rose-Hulman stands 1-1 on the season and returns to action on Saturday against Knox (11 am CT) and Olivet (1 pm CT).
