Ashley Black Career-High Scoring Day Leads Women's Basketball Past MSJ

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology sophomore Ashley Black scored a career-high 25 points to lead the Fightin' Engineers past Mount St. Joseph 65-44 in women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

Black surpassed her previous career-best scoring game by more than double, after scoring a previous high total of 12 points against Transylvania last weekend.  She finished 10-16 from the field and 5-9 from 3-point range to spark the offensive attack.

Rose-Hulman received significant scoring contributions from three other players in the victory.

Nola Wilson scored 14 points with 5 rebounds and 3 assists.  Rose Burnham contributed 10 points and 5 rebounds to the effort.  Jamie Baum added 9 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the Engineers.

Nosa Igiehon contributed 4 points and 3 rebounds, and Rowan Hein joined Baum with a teamhigh 4 assists in the win.

Chloe Jansen scored 21 of the 44 points for Mount St. Joseph to lead the Lions effort.

Mount St. Joseph led 24-21 at the half, but Rose-Hulman surpassed its first half scoring total in each of the final two quarters with 22 points in each 10-minute span.  The Fightin' Engineers held Mount St. Joseph to just 8 points in the fourth quarter, pulling away with a 44-20 second half scoring margin to earn the win.

The Fightin' Engineers improved to 7-6 overall and 5-3 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action, while Mount St. Joseph dropped to 6-10 and 3-6 in league games.  Rose-Hulman returns home to face Earlham on Wednesday Feb. 2 at 7:30 pm.
