FRANKLIN, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's basketball team rallied from a 10-point second half deficit to pick up a 71-64 road victory at Franklin College on Wednesday night.
Max Chaplin and
Miles McGowen led the Fightin' Engineers with 16 points each. Chaplin added 5 assists, and McGowen contributed 9 rebounds to go along with his career-high scoring performance.
Dillon Duff also reached double figures with 12 points and pitched in with 7 rebounds.
Samvit Ram also reached double figures with 10 points in the victory.
Other key contributors included
Jackson Kabrick with a career-high 12 rebounds to go along with 4 points;
Trey Wurtz with 8 rebounds and 4 points; and
Isaac Farnsworth with 4 points and 4 rebounds.
Franklin had 3 players in double figures, led by Matt Krause and Ty Wright with 15 points each.
Franklin held a 52-42 lead with 9:36 remaining after a score by Ryan Wiggins. The Fightin' Engineers answered with a 12-2 run to tie the game at 54-54 in a spurt capped by four points each from Chaplin and McGowen.
The Grizzlies built a 3-point lead at 61-58, before
Trey Wurtz scored on a layup and
Samvit Ram scored four straight points to put the Engineers up 64-61 with 58 seconds left.
Two free throws each by Chaplin and McGoven, a free throw from Ram, and a dunk by McGowen to put the exclamation point on the victory capped the Rose-Hulman scoring.
The Fightin' Engineers relied on a dominating rebound performance, winning the battle of the boards by a 50-29 margin, as a key factor in the win.
Rose-Hulman improved to 4-1 in HCAC play and remains tied for first place in the league standings. Franklin dropped to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
