CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology head coach Nick Sales earned his first career coaching victory to highlight a 66-57 men's basketball victory over Baldwin Wallace on Friday afternoon at Wabash College.

Sales enters his first year as head coach after a stint as associate head coach at Marietta College that resulted in a trip to the 2022 NCAA Division III Final Four.  The win occurred in the highly regarded Great Lakes Invitational, an event featuring eight of the nation's top NCAA Division III programs that are invited to compete in the annual event.

Four Rose-Hulman players scored in double figures to highlight the balanced scoring attack.  Max Chaplin led Fightin' Engineer scorers with 14 points on 6-8 from the free throw line.

Miles McGowen recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.  Bradley Harden added 12 points and a team-high 5 assists.  Willie Bowman rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points on 2 three-pointers and a perfect 4-4 on the free throw line.

Other key contributors for Rose-Hulman included Terry Hicks with 7 points and 8 rebounds; and Simon Blair with 5 points and 3 rebounds.

Anthony Mazzeo led Baldwin Wallace with 19 points.  Ashton Price and Jackson Simmons also reached double figures with 11 points each for the Yellow Jackets.

Rose-Hulman jumped out to a 31-18 lead at the half by relying on strong defense that held Baldwin Wallace to just 29% from the field.  In the second half, Rose-Hulman hit 12-19 free throws to help pull away and secure the victory.

The Fightin' Engineers relied on key advantages in rebounds (45-36) and free throws made (14 to 2) to earn the victory.

Rose-Hulman (1-1) returns to action on Saturday at 1 pm against Trine (3-0) in the final day of the Great Lakes Invitational at Wabash College.
