CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -- Trine University relied on a balanced scoring and strong defense to top Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 54-38 in men's basketball action on Saturday at the Great Lakes Invitational.
Brent Cox led the Trine offense with 17 points. Connor Jones added 13 points, and Emmanuel Megnangelo also reached double figures with 10 points for the Thunder.
Max Chaplin paced the Rose-Hulman offense with 11 points and also had 6 rebounds.Â
Miles McGowen added 9 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for the Fightin' Engineers.
Bradley Harden contributed 5 points to the Engineer offense.
Trine relied on a strong defensive effort that held Rose-Hulman to just 26 percent from the field to earn the victory. Rose-Hulman controlled the boards with a 47-26 rebounding edge, but Trine shot 44 percent from the field to improve to 4-0 on the season.
Following the game, Chaplin earned a spot on the Great Lakes Invitational all-tournament team for his efforts over both games this weekend.
Rose-Hulman stands 1-2 overall and returns to action on Tuesday at Carthage (Wis.) in non-conference action.
