Randolph Career-High Night Leads Women's Basketball to Opening Day Win

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology junior Mira Randolph scored a career-high 20 points to help propel the Fightin' Engineers to a 59-47 win at Penn State Altoona in the 2022-23 women's basketball season opener on Saturday night.

Randolph finished 7-8 from the field and 3-4 from 3-point range in a career-high scoring performance.  The 20 points surpassed her previous single-game mark of 16 points in a win over Elmhurst last season.

Jamie Baum provided scoring depth with 16 points and tied Peyton Miller for team-high honors with 3 assists.  Nola Wilson contrbuted 8 points, 2 steals and 2 assists to the effort.

Rose Burnham added to the balanced offense with 5 points and 8 rebunds.  Miller scored 4 points, and CK Gallegos-Rodriguez pitched in with 7 rebounds for the Fightin' Engineers.

Avana Sayles scored 19 points with 10 rebounds for Penn State Altoona, but the Fightin' Engineers forced Sayles to a 9-28 performance from the field.

Rose-Hulman led 22-20 at the break, before Randolph and Baum provided offense in the key spurt that pulled the score in the Engineer favor.  Randolph hit two straight 3-pointers to make the score 32-24, Columba Rodriguez added a 3-pointer, and Baum hit back-to-back 3-pointers to make the score 43-30 late in the third quarter.

Rose-Hulman stands 1-0 on the season, while Penn State Altoona dropped to 0-4.  The Fightin' Engineers won their season opener for the first time since the 2017-18 season and return to action at Mount Aloysius on Sunday at 3 pm.
