ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's basketball team placed four players in double figures to top Fontbonne University 69-58 for its second straight victory on Wednesday night.
Kobe Stoudemire led the balanced scoring attack with 13 points on 5-9 from the field and 3-5 from 3-point range.Â
Vuk Djuric added 11 points on 5-6 from the field.
Max Chaplin and
Bradley Harden also reached double figures with 10 points each.Â
Miles McGowen narrowly missed a double-double with 9 points and 10 rebounds, and
Willie Bowman added 7 points to the effort.
Rose-Hulman outrebounded Fontbonne 37-30 in the contest and hit 9 3-point shots to pull away in the second half. The Fightin' Engineers led 32-29 at the break and pushed the lead to as high as 12 late in the second half.
Fontbonne trimmed the Engineers lead to 54-53 at the 8:36 mark of the second half. Rose-Hulman answered with an 11-0 run to push the lead to 65-53 with 4:17 left. Stoudemire keyed the run by starting and finishing the spurt with baskets. Chaplin added a 3-pointer,
Simon Blair scored on a layup and Djuric hit one free throw in the stretch.
Rose-Hulman improved to 3-3 on the season, while Fontbonne dropped to 1-5. The Fightin' Engineers return home to face Transylvania University in the 2022-23 home opener on Saturday at 3 pm.
