HANOVER, Ind. -- The Hanover Panthers relied on the hot shooting of two players combining for over 50 points to pick up an 83-71 men's basketball victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Wednesday night.
Jack Wininger scored 33 points on nine three-point shots to lead the Hanover offense. Ty Houston added 19 points on 9-18 from the field to provide scoring depth for the Panthers.
Rose-Hulman had strong offense of its own to remain within contention throughout the contest.Â
Miles McGowen tied a career-high with 22 points on 11-13 from the field to pace the Fightin' Engineer attack.
Bradley Harden also tied a career-high with 12 points on 6-7 from the field.Â
Terry Hicks also reached double figures with 11 points and seven rebounds.
Other key Rose-Hulman contributors included
Max Chaplin with seven points and five assists;
Zachary Jackson with seven points and three assists; and
Vuk Djuric with six points and three assists.
Hanover turned a tight game into a 46-36 halftime lead by closing the first half on an 11-2 run over the final 3:25. The Fightin' Engineers rallied to within six points at 59-53 on a three-pointer by Jackson, but a Hanover 14-4 run secured the home team victory.
Hanover improved to 6-2 and 3-0 in HCAC play, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 5-5 and 2-2 in conference games. The Fightin' Engineers return home on Tuesday Dec. 20 for the team's Community Night home matchup with Wabash College. All fans will be admitted free to the game, with children in attendance able to meet Rose-Hulman players and coaches following the game.
