DEFIANCE, Ohio -- Defiance College shot 50% from the field and relied on a 25-point performance from Marell Jordan to pick up a 64-57 men's basketball victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon.
Jordan finished 10-15 from the field and added 6 rebounds to lead the Yellow Jackets offense. Dejsani Beamon also reached double figures with 11 points.
Trey Wurtz led the Rose-Hulman offense with a season-high 17 points along with 8 rebounds.Â
Max Chaplin scored 9 points, and Isaac Fansworth added 8 points for the Fightin' Engineers.
Other key contributors inluded
Samvit Ram with 7 points;
Terry Hicks with 6 points and 9 rebounds; and
Bradley Harden with 4 points and 3 assists.
The score was tied at 47-47 with 8:27 remaining. Defiance answered with a 9-2 run to take a 7-point lead, before Wurtz scored at the 4:53 mark to close Rose-Hulman within 56-51.
The Fightin' Engineers closed within 58-55 at the 1:40 mark on two free throws by Hicks. Defiance held Rose-Hulman to just two free throws the rest of the way to secure the win.
Defiance improved to 10-10 and 8-5 in league play, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 12-9 and 8-7 in conference play. The Fightin' Engineers travel to Anderson University for another HCAC game on Tuesday night.
