DEFIANCE, Ohio -- Defiance College closed out the game on a 9-2 run to pick up a 56-48 women's basketball victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday in Ohio.
Five straight points from Lexie Sparks turned the Defiance lead from 47-46 to 52-46 at the 3:01 mark.Â
Rose Burnham scored to bring Rose-Hulman within 54-48 at the 1:57 mark, but the Defiance defense held the Fightin' Engineers scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Jamie Baum led Rose-Hulman wth 13 points and 8 rebounds.Â
Rowan Hein added 9 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals for the Fightin' Engineers.Â

Jordan Barlow with 8 points, and
Mira Randolph with 6 points.
Nysha Speed led Defiance with 11 points, and Sparks scored 10 points for the Yellow Jackets.
Defiance improved to 12-8 overall and 8-6 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 9-8 and 7-5 in league games. The Fightin' Engineers return to action at home on Tuesday against Anderson University.
