FRANKLIN, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball closed the regular season with a win to clinch home court for the opening round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. Rose-Hulman defeated Franklin College 58-45 on the road and is set to host Defiance College on Sunday, February 20. The time will be determined late Friday night.
In Friday's win, the Fightin' Engineers opened the second quarter ahead by seven and grew to lead 38-18 at the break. Rose-Hulman held a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.
Rowan Hein led the offensive attack with 17 points in 34 minutes of play. Hein also added five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Nosa Igiehon recorded her sixth career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds in only 19 minutes of work.
Peyton Miller and
Mira Randolph each scored six points;
Nola Wilson finished with five points; the trio of
Jordan Barlow,
Jamie Baum, and
Kahlan Jester each finished with four points.
Rose Burnham added two points and six rebounds while
Ashley Black recorded a team-high four assists.
For the game, Rose-Hulman shot 43.4% from the floor alongside a 41.2% (7-for-17) shooting clip from behind the arc.
Rose-Hulman continued its trend of solid 3-point defense against Franklin. The Grizzlies were 1-of-15 in the first meeting and 1-of-14 from beyond the arc tonight.
Rose-Hulman completes the regular season at 11-8 and 9-5 in HCAC play. The HCAC Tournament brackets are below. The winner of the 8-team HCAC Tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
