DEFIANCE, Ohio -- The longest conference team championship streak in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference came to an end as the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's track and field team came home second at the 2022 HCAC Indoor Championships on Saturday.
Rose-Hulman won the last 24 HCAC track and field championship meets, including the last 11 HCAC indoor championship meets, heading into today's competition. Manchester took home a narrow team victory, outscoring runner-up Rose-Hulman 158.5 to 154 in the meet.
Transylvania, Bluffton and Franklin rounded out the top five in the 10-team championship meet.
Rose-Hulman brought home seven event championships in the strong team performance.Â
Jailen Hobbs led the way with a Rose-Hulman and HCAC school record in the 60-meter dash, running a national top 15 in the event in 6.85 seconds. Hobbs also won the 200-meter dash in 22.55 seconds.
Hobbs also won a pair of HCAC special awards - earning HCAC Sprint Athlete of the Year and HCAC Newcomer of the Year honors.
Event champions also included
Kyle Brownell in the high jump (6' 7 1/2");
Jacob Eve in the 400 (50.78); and
Tim Youndt in the triple jump (45' 1").
The 4-x-200 and 4-x-400 relay teams also captured first-place honors.Â
