AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Adam Rosen coaching era begins with a pair of victories, as the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team swept Northern Vermont-Lyndon 14-1 and 12-11 on Sunday to open the team's Florida Spring Trip.
In the opener, Josh Mesenbrink collected four RBIs to help lead the offense in a convincing 14-1 victory.
Ian Kline (1-0) started on the mound and picked up the win for Rose-Hulman (1-0). The right-hander went 4.2 innings, giving up one run on five hits, allowing three walks and striking out five. Sam Stieby added one scoreless inning while allowing one hit, with no walks and one strikeout.
Mesenbrink went 2-for-2 with a home run in addition to his four RBIs for the Engineers. Dalton Busboom put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and an RBI. Adam Taylor also contributed for Rose-Hulman, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding two RBIs.
In the nightcap, Northern Vermont-Lyndon took the lead with an 8-run third inning, before Rose-Hulman rallied to earn the 12-11 win.
Brett Tuttle led the way offensively for the Engineers, going 3-for-4 in the ballgame with a double, a triple, a home run and two RBIs. Adam Taylor also went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs. Colter Couillard-Rodak added one hit and two RBIs.
Jonathan Oliger (1-0) came out of the bullpen to pick up the win for Rose-Hulman (2-0). The right-hander went 1.2 shutout innings without giving up a hit, two walks and striking out three. Schuyler Wilcox earned the save, going 1.1 shutout innings without allowing a hit.
Rose-Hulman stands 2-0 on the season and returns to action on Monday against Saint Mary's (Minn.).

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Engineers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first inning off a left-field blast by Mesenbrink.
The Hornets then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 3-1 until the Engineers expanded their advantage in the third. Rose-Hulman scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Ben Christiansen, which brought the Engineers lead to 4-1.
Rose-Hulman kept NVU-Lyndon without a run before building their lead to 6-1 the following inning. The Engineers picked up two runs in the frame, the important hit being an RBI double from Dalton Busboom scoring Shane Garner.
Rose-Hulman held the Hornets scoreless before their offense got back in action in the sixth inning. The Engineers scored four runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Taylor, bringing the Rose-Hulman advantage to 10-1.
The Engineers kept NVU-Lyndon scoreless before building on their lead to 14-1 the following inning. The Rose-Hulman offense piled up four runs, highlighted by a one-run HBP by Kade Kline. The score remained 14-1 for the rest of the game, as the Engineers coasted to the win.

The Hornets then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 6-1 until the Engineers expanded their advantage in the second. Josh Mesenbrink came across to score the lone run of the inning for Rose-Hulman, which brought the score to 7-1 in favor of the Engineers.
NVU-Lyndon narrowed Rose-Hulman's lead to 7-3 before the Engineers stretched the advantage to 9-3 in the third inning. The Engineers picked up two runs in the frame, punctuated with an RBI triple off the bat of Adam Taylor scoring Blake Deckard.
Rose-Hulman lost the lead they built in the third, but got back on the board in the fourth trailing 11-9. Drew Roberts crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Engineers, tightening the NVU-Lyndon lead to 11-10.
The Engineers held the Hornets off the scoreboard before rallying to grab a 12-11 lead in the sixth. Rose-Hulman scored twice on a line-drive shot over the right field fence by Brett Tuttle.
The score remained 12-11 for the rest of the game, courtesy of the Rose-Hulman bullpen. Jonathan Oliger came out of the pen and earned the win. Schulyer Wilcox earned the save as the combination of Oliger, Wilcox, and Jason Ims kept NVU-Lyndon off the scoreboard to hold onto the win.
