WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The University of Dubuque relied on a 5-run ninth inning to turn a 5-4 deficit into a 9-7 victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the final game of the Fightin' Engineer spring trip on Friday.
Rose-Hulman rallied with a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth to close within 9-7 on an RBI hit by pitch from
Brett Tuttle and a fielder's choice RBI by
Adam Taylor. The Fightin' Engineers had the tying runs on first and third before Dubuque was able to record a fly out to end the game.
Shane Garner led the offense with a home run, a single, three RBIs and one run scored.Â
Harrison Finch added three hits, including a double, with one run scored.Â
Dalton Busboom also had three hits, one run scored and one RBI.
Adam Taylor added two singles, two RBIs and one run scored.Â
Kade Kline also had multiple hits with two singles and one run scored.
Brett Borcherding led the pitching performance by allowing one run in four innings of work with three strikeouts.
Parker Allen led the Dubuque offense with four hits and two RBIs. Hayden Iacolucci added three hits and two runs scored for Dubuque.
Rose-Hulman completes its spring trip with a 3-3 record, while Dubuque improved to 4-2. The Fightin' Engineers host Calvin on Friday March 11 in first game at Art Nehf Field under the leadership of first-year head coach
Adam Rosen.
