TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team earned a doubleheader split to open the 2022 home season at the Engineer Softball Field on Sunday.
Rose-Hulman won the opener 6-4 over Fontbonne University, before narrowly falling 6-5 in the nightcap.
In the opener, Angela Boulboulle racked up three hits and four RBIs to help propel the Rose-Hulman offense. Â
Ariel Thomasson (5-1) picked up the win for Rose-Hulman, scattering eight hits with three strikeouts and just two earned runs allowed in the complete game victory.Â
Boulboulle went 3-for-4 with a double in addition to her four RBIs for the Engineers. Nicole Lang finished 2-2 with two walks. Thomasson also contributed for the offense with two hits, including a double.
Reagan Knabe also pitched in with a multi-hit game in the opener with two singles.
In the nightcap, Nicole Lang scored twice and reached base three times to lead the offense. Boulboulle added two singles and scored one run. Hailey Hofmann added a hit, run and RBI.
Rose-Hulman stands 9-3 on the season and returns home to face Greenville on Wednesday at 5:30 pm.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Engineers first put runs on the board in the first inning. Rose-Hulman got an RBI single from Boulboulle, scoring Thomasson from second base.
The Engineers kept the deficit at 2-1 before taking the lead in the fifth. which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Engineers.
Rose-Hulman kept Fontbonne scoreless before expanding their lead to 6-2 the following inning. The Engineers pushed two runs across on a two-run double from Boulboulle that brought home Thomasson and Lang. Fontbonne put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Rose-Hulman still held on for the 6-4 win.
