FLORENCE, Kentucky -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on pitching and defense in game one and an offensive onslaught in the nightcap to sweep Mount St. Joseph 3-2 and 16-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball action on Tuesday.
In the opener, Josh Erpenbeck allowed no earned runs in six innings with four strikeouts to help lead a strong pitching performance in a 3-2 victory. Jonathan Oliger tossed a scoreless seventh, and Schuyler Wilcox pitched the final two innings to earn his third save.
Rose-Hulman relied on its defense to end the seventh, eighth and ninth innings. Left fielder Harrison Finch threw out a potential run on a single to end the seventh. The eighth and ninth innings finished with the Fightin' Engineers turning double plays in the middle infield to secure the win.
Offensively, Colter Couillard-Rodak and Manuel Lopez led the offense with two hits each, including a double. Couillard-Rodak scored one run and Lopez had one RBI.
Finch contributed two hits, and Brett Tuttle added a hit, run and RBI to support the offense.

Rose-Hulman improved to 14-7 and 5-3 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while Mount St. Joseph dropped to 9-18 and 1-9 in league games. The Fightin' Engineers travel to the University of Louisville on Saturday to face Transylvania University in a 2 pm doubleheader.
