Late Rally Falls Short in 12-8 Home Loss to DePauw

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology made a late charge before narrowly falling 12-8 to DePauw University in college baseball action on Tuesday night at Art Nehf Field.

The Fightin' Engineers trailed 9-0 in the sixth inning, but scored four runs in the sixth and four in the seventh to close within 9-8.

DePauw added three insurance runs to secure the win.  

Josh Mesenbrink led the offense with a single, double and one run scored.  

Adam Taylor and Brett Tuttle each added two singles and two RBIs.  Harrison FInch and Manuel Lopez each scored twice for the Fightin' Engineers.

DePauw improved to 14-15 on the season, while Rose-Hulman dropped to 19-10.  The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Wednesday night in another non-conference game at Greenville.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 9-0, the Engineers first put runs on the board in the sixth inning. Rose-Hulman's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Tuttle.

The Engineers kept the deficit at 9-4 before closing the gap further in the seventh. The Rose-Hulman offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a one-run single off the bat of Taylor, which tightened the Tigers lead to 9-8. The Engineers were unable to get any closer, as DePauw added three runs to their tally on the way to a 12-8 final.
