Men's Tennis Faces Luther in NCAA D-III Tournament on Friday at 10 AM CT

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is headed to St. Louis for the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament for a first round matchup against Luther College on Friday at 10 am Central Time.

Rose-Hulman earned its 7th consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament after winning the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's tennis tournament championship 5-4 over Hanover College on Sunday.  The match set a new HCAC Tournament championship record with a 4-hour, 10-minute duration before the Fightin' Engineers earned the NCAA Division III Tournament automatic bid.

Luther College completed an undefeated season in the American Rivers Conference this season to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.  Luther enters the match with a 17-9 record, while Rose-Hulman stands 11-9.  The match will take place on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis. 

The Fightin' Engineers finished 5-0 in HCAC regular season action and 2-0 in HCAC Tournament play prior to the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament.  Rose-Hulman is 57-1 in its last 58 matches against HCAC competition dating back to 2015, highlighted by six regular season and seven conference tournament championships.

Joshua Giambattista, Mark Slaninka, Owen Reynolds and Grant Paradowski led the Fightin' Engineers with first-team all-HCAC recognition this season.  Rhian Seneviratne and Arudrra Krishnan earned honorable mention all-league accolades as well.

Giambattista holds down the No. 1 singles slot with an 8-10 overall record and 8-8 in dual matches this season.  His career record stands at 32-30 in singles play with 22 doubles wins, and the senior was named HCAC Tournament Most Valuable Player after a 6-0 third set victory in the deciding match of last weekend's HCAC Tournament.

Slaninka has has a doubles record of 14-6 this season and 22-6 over the last two years.  The No. 2 singles player has a career doubles record of 30-15 and also 11 singles victories.

Reynolds finished 10-10 in singles play this season as the primary No. 3 flight player.  He also added 8 doubles victories and is teaming with Giambattista at the No. 1 doubles flight.

Paradowski was a 2-time HCAC Player of the Week this season and has teamed with Slaninka at the No. 2 doubles flight.  He leads the team with 11 singles wins and has added 13 doubles wins in 2022.

Seneviratne finished a perfect 2-0 in the HCAC championship match against Hanover, winning at No. 5 singles and with Krishnan at No. 3 doubles.  He has 9 singles and 8 doubles wins this season, improving his career totals to 13 singles and 14 doubles victories.

Krishnan has contributed 4 singles and 4 doubles wins this season at the No. 6 singles flight.  His career record includes 11 singles and 8 doubles victories.

The winner of the match between Rose-Hulman and Luther will face host WashU in round two of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday May 14 in St. Louis.
