ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team jumped out to an early lead before Webster University rallied to pick up a 2-1 victory in the season opener on Thursday night.
Lauren Marquardt opened the scoring in the 24th minute with her first career goal, courtesy of an assist from
Kyra Hicks.Â
Lane Lawrence led the Fightin' Engineer offense with four shots.
Webster rallied with a goal by Jordan Lande in the 53rd minute and a score by Abbey Poe in the 57th minute to earn the 2-1 victory.
Rose-Hulman outshot Webster 11-10 in the match, highlighted by seven shots in a strong second half performance. The Fightin' Engineers also had all six corner kicks in the match.
Rose-Hulman returns to action on Saturday at Centre College with a 5 pm contest.
