BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology volleyball team gave a battle to two strong Midwestern NCAA Division III foes before falling in four sets to Concordia Wisconsin and Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday.
Concordia Wisconsin picked up a 25-17, 25-17, 22-25, 25-14 victory in the opener. Illinois Wesleyan won by a margin of 25-16, 25-12, 18-25, 28-26 in the nightcap.
In the opener,
Elizabeth Canon and
Allie Fults led the Fightin' Engineers with eight kills each. Fults added a team-high two blocks.
Kylie Rathbun,
Sophia Koop and
Lily Ebright added two service aces against Concordia Wisconsin.Â
Jillian Gregg (17) and
Sophia Harrison (14) reached double figures in assists, and Ebright had a team-best 19 digs.
Against Illinois Wesleyan, Rose-Hulman won set three and nearly won the fourth set before falling to one of the top programs in the Midwest.
Fults led the offense with nine kills, and
Megan Korte contribute eight kills. Harrison had a team-high 19 assists and Gregg contributed 15 assists and 11 digs.
Ebright paced the defensive effort with 28 digs. Harrison and Rathbun recorded three service aces each, and Fults joined
Elizabeth Canon with three blocks.
Following the tournament, Ebright earned a spot on the all-Illinois Wesleyan Invitational team.
Rose-Hulman stands 3-4 on the season and returns to action at the Aurora Invitational next weekend.
