TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Albion College relied on a balanced offensive attack to top Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 49-17 in a football matchup of defending champions of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association and the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference on Saturday.
Luke Lovell threw for 321 yards and six touchdowns to lead the Albion offense. Mark Tocco was the leading receiver for the Britons with six receptions for 129 yards and two touchdowns.
Miguel Robertson had career-high totals 26-of-42 passing for 259 yards with one touchdown to lead the Rose-Hulman offense.Â
Daniel Huery hauled in nine catches for 108 yards and one touchdown, and the duo of
Jailen Hobbs and
Adam Tice-Saliu added five receptions each.
Grant Ripperda led the rushing attack with 46 yards on 16 carries.Â
Alex Gresock added four receptions and was part of Rose-Hulman's opening touchdown.
With the Fightin' Engineers trailing 7-0 in the first quarter, Gresock ran to the right near the goal line looking to score a touchdown. The ball was knocked free by an Albion defender and rolled into the endzone, where
John Hruska recovered the fumble for his first career touchdown to tie the score at 7-7.
Rose-Hulman closed to within 14-10 with 4:51 left in the second quarter on a 28-yard field goal by
Kyle Rehberg to cap an 11-play scoring drive. Robertson and Huery connected on a 20-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter to complete the Fightin' Engineer scoring on the day.
The Rose-Hulman defense was led by
Kyzer Bowen with nine tackles, and
Chaikou Sow added eight stops.Â
Tyce Miller had an interception,
Riley Roberts provided one sack and two tackles-fo-rloss, and
Cameron Dorsey had five tackles among six total hits to provide support.
Albion improved to 3-0 on the season with the victory. Rose-Hulman opens HCAC play on Oct. 1 at Anderson, before hosting Manchester in the Homecoming Game on Oct. 8.
