AURORA, Ill. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology faced off with two teams receiving votes for the AVCA Top 25 poll on Saturday, giving a battle to Wisconsin-Platteville and Millikin before falling in both volleyball matches.
Rose-Hulman captured set two off UW-Platteville in the 18-25, 25-23, 15-25, 18-25 loss. Millikin topped the Fightin' Engineers in three sets in the nightcap, including a tight 30-28 opening set.
Against UW-Platteville,
Sophia Koop led Rose-Hulman with nine kills.Â
Megan Korte added eight kills, and
Allie Fults had seven kills for the Fightin' Engineers.
Lily Ebright led the defense with 21 digs, and Fults recorded three blocks.Â
Sophia Harrison had a team-high 17 assists and reached double figures with 12 digs, and
Jillian Gregg added 13 assists.
In the nightcap, Rose-Hulman and Millikin went through a lengthy set one battle in a 30-28 score before the Big Blue swept the final two sets.
Korte had 10 kills to lead the Rose-Hulman offense, with Koop adding five.Â
Aaliyah Briggs added team-highs of two aces and two blocks.Â
Harrison and Gregg each had 12 assists in match two, and
Kylie Rathbun recorded a team-high 12 digs.
Following the tournament, Ebright earned a spot on the all-Aurora Invitational Team.
Rose-Hulman returns home for its own Invitational next weekend. The home opener is a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup against Manchester University on Friday night at 7 pm.
