Football Cruises to 52-28 Victory over Bluffton

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology football teams cruised to a 52-21 victory over Bluffton on Saturday afternoon. The Fightin' Engineers improve to 4-2 on the season and 3-0 in the HCAC.

Bluffton came out with a hot start as they took the opening drive 75 yards in 12 plays for a 7-0 lead.

Rose-Hulman would answer with a pair of touchdown passes by Miguel Robertson, 58 yards to Jailen Hobbs and 5 yards to Daniel Huery.

The Fightin' Engineers wou; then get their first defensive touchdown of the game as Joseph Alexion blocked a Bluffton punt in the endzone, and Colin Flannagan recovered it for the touchdown.

After Bluffton answered with a score to make it 21-14, the Rose-Hulman defense would come up big again as Wyatt Bell picked off a pass and took it 19 yards to the house.

Jay Smith would add another touchdown before the half, and the Fightin' Engineers would go into the locker room leading 35-14.

Coming out of the locker room, Rose-Hulman would tack on another touchdown on a 30-yard touchdown from Robertson to Huery.

Grant Ripperda would then add his first score of the game with a 35-yard touchdown run, and Kyle Rehberg would add a career-long 35-yard field goal to make it 52-21 going into the final quarter.

Bluffton would add a late touchdown, but the Fightin' Engineers would cruise to a 52-28 victory.

Robertson would finish 21-27 for 261 yards and 3 touchdowns. Ripperda would lead the Fightin' Engineers on the ground with 122 rushing yards and a score.

Huery finished with the 6th-most catches in a game in school history with 14 catches for 167 yards and 2 scores.

On defense, Jakey Ovanic recorded the 9th most tackles in a single-game in school history with 17. Jacob Fields (13), Marshall Koch (12), and Riley Lopian (10) all finished in double figures for tackles.

The Fightin' Engineers improve to 4-2 on the season and 3-0 in the HCAC. They will return to the road next week as they travel to Franklin on Saturday, October 21.
