FRANKLIN, Ind.-- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers hit the road to take on the Franklin Grizzlies this Saturday. The team relied on a balanced offensive attack to earn the win and remain undefeated in the conference with a final score of 50-35. This advances the team to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in the HCAC.
Miguel Robertson finished the game 25 for 33 with 356 yards through the air and two passing touchdowns. The Fightin' Engineers had two receivers break the 100-yard mark led by
Jailen Hobbs with 108 on six catches and
Daniel Huery with 106 on 10 catches.
Grant Ripperda was the standout in the backfield leading the Fightin' Engineers with 188 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
Jay Smith got in the end zone twice on the ground finishing the day with 51 yards rushing.
Defensively, the Fightin' Engineers were led by
Jakey Ovanic with nine tackles, two tackles for loss, and a half of a sack. He was followed by
Marshall Koch and
Chaikou Sow with eight tackles each.
Payton Gryniewicz led the team with three tackles for loss.
Rose-Hulman trailed 13-14 at the end of the first quarter. A nine play 67-yard drive topped off by a four-yard touchdown run by Smith put the Fightin' Engineers in front 20-14. Franklin answered with a five-yard touchdown run of their own to retake the lead 20-21.
The teams continued to trade scores until the Fightin' Engineers got the ball back with 49 seconds left on their own 42-yard line leading 34-28. Rose-Hulman put together a nine play, 53-yard drive to set up a 22-yard field goal by
Kyle Rehberg as the half came to an end to establish a 37-28 lead at halftime.
Rose-Hulman controlled the momentum in the second half with their biggest play of the day coming on a 71-yard touchdown pass from Robertson to
Brandon Green for Green's second score of the game to put the Fightin' Engineers up 47-28 in the third quarter. The Fightin' Engineers finished strong to claim the win over the Grizzlies in a hard fought contest.
Rose-Hulman will return home to host Hanover College on Saturday, 10/28 at 2 PM.
