TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team took down Franklin 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Kate Choi. The Fightin' Engineers improve to 6-3-4 on the season and 5-2 in the HCAC.
Franklin came out of the gates quickly with a shot just 95 seconds into the ball game, but the header went just off target from Katelyn Duff.
After that, the game would be all Rose-Hulman as the Fightin' Engineers would outshoot the Grizzlies 21-1 and 9-0 in shots on goal.
The Fightin' Engineers had two exceptionally good chances in the first half, but both of them went off the crossbar to keep the game scoreless.
Kyra Hicks connected on a cross from
Jayden Gibson and put it on frame before the keeper saved it off the bar in the 33rd minute. Just 6 minutes later,
Lauren Marquardt ripped a shot from outside the box and rattled the bar as well.Â
In the second half, Rose-Hulman continued to have chance after chance before, finally, the luck turned their way and
Katie Choi deflected a cross from
Ally Smith off the goal post and in for the game-winner in the 76th minute.
With the win, the Fightin' Engineers clinch a spot in the HCAC Tournament, and they are a draw away from clinching first-round home game in the tournament.
Rose-Hulman will return to action on Saturday, October 21 at 1 PM as they host the Bluffton Beavers on Senior Day.
