TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team brought home their first home win over Coach Paul's tenure with an 82-74 victory over Elmhurst on Saturday afternoon.
The Fightin' Engineers started the game slow and trailed 6-0 early to the Blue Jays, and Elmhurst would lead for the entirety of the quarter and take a 17-14 lead into the second.
In the second quarter, the lead would go back and forth until
Grace Roland made a layup with 4:17 to go in the second quarter to give Rose-Hulman a 27-26 lead. The Fightin' Engineers would turn that layup into a 10-0 run, and they would not relinquish the lead again.Â
The Fightin' Engineers got hot in the third quarter with 30 points on 75% shooting from the floor, and they would fend off a late comeback by the Blue Jays to hold on for the victory.
Grace Roland finishes the game with 32 points on 11-16 shooting from the floor which ranks as tied for the third-most in a single game in school history. She is just the third player in school history to score 32 points in a game and the first since Suzy Carlson in 2006.Â
Roland also finished 9-9 from the charity stripe which is tied for ninth in school history for most free throws made without a miss, and her 10 rebound helped tally her third double-double of the season.
Sophia Reese added her first career double-double with 11 points and 10 assists. Her 10 assists are tied for the second-most in school history, and she is just the sixth player in school history to record double-digit assists in a game.
Manuella Shomba and
Jamie Baum each added double-doubles with 11 points and 12 rebounds for Shomba and 13 points and 13 rebounds for Baum.
The double-doubles by Baum, Reese, Roland, and Shomba marks the first-time in school history that the team recorded four double-doubles in a game.
Ashley Black also finished in double-figures with 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.
The Fightin' Engineers improve to 4-6 on the season and will return to the court on Friday, December 22 as they travel to Spalding.
