Women's Basketball Falls to MSJ in Overtime Thriller

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology dropped a nail-biter in overtime 66-62 on Saturday afternoon.

The game was back and forth the entire way with neither team able to gain control. The Lions built their largest lead of the game at 10 points late in the first half, but Rose-Hulman answered with a 9-0 run to go into the locker room trailing by just one point.

The second half was more of the same, and both teams had chances to win the game in the final minute. Jamie Baum hit a jumper with 28 seconds to go to tie the game at 53.

Mount St. Joseph came back down the floor and got fouled with just 1.6 seconds remaining, but they only made one of the two free throws. Rose-Hulman then threw the ball in to Manuella Shomba who drew a foul with under a second remaining, but Shomba only made one of two as well, and the game went to overtime tied at 54.

In overtime, both teams matched each other shot for shot, and neither team was able to build a multi-possession lead. Mount St. Joseph hit a triple with one minute to go to take a 2-point lead, and they answered a Rose-Hulman miss with a bucket to win the game 66-62.

Manuella Shomba led the team with 16 points and 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.

Jamie Baum also added 16 points and 7 rebounds, and she led the team with 3 steals.

CK Gallegos-Rodriguez came up big on the glass with 11 rebounds.

Rose-Hulman returns to action on Wednesday night as they travel to Hanover for another HCAC battle.
