Buzzer Beater Win at Franklin; MBB Hosts Transylvania on Sunday at 4 PM

FRANKLIN, Ind. -- The Fightin' Engineers travel to Franklin and took down the Grizzlies 73-71 in the regular season finale on a tip-in at the buzzer by Miles McGowen. Rose-Hulman earns the #4 seed in the HCAC Tournament and will host #5 Transylvania in the opening round of the tournament on Sunday at 4 PM.

The first half was played within eight points with neither team leading by more than four points during the duration of the half. The two teams would enter the locker room tied at 36. The Fightin' Engineers dominated the paint, leading 20-8 in points in the paint. The rest of the stats were nearly dead even in rebounds, assists, and turnovers.

In the second half, the game stayed dead even with 20 lead changes and 7 ties throughout the course of the game. Franklin would climb out to a 48-41 lead for the biggest lead of the game, but the Fightin' Engineers would claw back into it with a 12-3 run to retake the lead. In the final four minute stretch of the game, there would be eight lead changes with both teams hitting big shot after big shot. Franklin would tie the game at 71 with 30 seconds to go, but Rose-Hulman would answer on a McGowen tip-in at the buzzer to give Rose-Hulman the victory. 

Max Chaplin led all scorers in the win with 25 points. Willie Bowman added 16 points on 5-6 shooting from three.

McGowen added 10 points and 7 rebounds, and Terry Hicks added 9 points. Simon Blair also came up big off the bench with 4 points and 10 rebounds.

Carter Crowe led Franklin with 18 points in the loss. Jacob Deere, Jalen Love, and Cody Samples were all in double figures as well.

Rose-Hulman improved to 15-10 and 12-6 in HCAC play, while Franklin drops to 13-12 and 9-9 in conference games. The Fightin' Engineers earn the #4 seed in the HCAC Tournament and will host Transylvania at 4 PM on Sunday (Feb. 19) at Hulbert Arena. The winner of Sunday's Opening Round Game will travel to top-seeded Manchester for the HCAC Semifinals on Friday Feb. 24.
